What’s Cool on Kickstarter

There’s many interesting items to be found on Kickstarter, but these are the coolest ones this week.

The Skirmish Box
Dog Might Games has another beautiful product for offer with the Skirmish Box. It’s available in all the beautiful colors, woods, and carving options we’ve seen before, but this box includes a metal plate to make it magnetic. This makes it a great way to transport your miniatures without worrying about them moving around in transport or being damaged. You can get also get the box with compartments to store dice, pencils, cards, and whatever else you need to take with you.

“Crafted by the insane Lumberjack Vikings at Dog Might Games, the Skirmish Box is the ultimate mini transport for your next head-to-head battle or campaign encounter. The Skirmish box uses an embedded metal plate that allows your minis with added magnets to stand apart from one another, ensuring safe transport. It also offers a variety of wells to hold cards, tokens, dice, or anything else you need for your game and holds up to 25 minis. Every Skirmish Box is available in a variety of woods and interior designs, just choose the one that works for you. We offer over 30 exterior designs which are sculpted directly into the hardwood lid. Each Box is created from hand selected hardwoods and comes with a Lifetime Guarantee.”

Sweet Dreams Cthulhu
These bedtime books are the best way to indoctrinate your spawn into the eldritch ways while they’re still young. The mythos monsters that show up are cute, and there’s even going to be a stuffed Cthulhu to cuddle with. Ciaramella and Murphy have put out several other kids books like C is for Cthulhu, and this book will help expand your bookshelf for some bedtime reading.

“SWEET DREAMS CTHULHU is a lushly painted, premium bedtime board book that’s sure to help cultists of all ages drift into dreamland. In the story, Howard Lovecraft is awakened late one night by his old friend, Cthulhu, who has had a hard time sleeping due to some bad dreams and other common fears children experience when the lights go out. Howard talks Cthulhu through his worries, reassures him, and shows him that the night isn’t so scary after all. It’s a warm story, packed with lovely art, and features our not-so-scary versions of Lovecraft’s characters fans will recognize from the original book, C is for Cthulhu.”

Machu Picchu Dice Volume 2
These dice are so beautiful. They’re handcrafted from wood, silver, semi-precious gems, and shell. The design takes it’s inspiration from Incan traditions, and you can choose your deign and wood types. They’re expensive, $34 for a single d6, but these are unique dice that you can’t get anywhere else.

“They are the world’s first 4 elements dice, a blend between 3 kinds of awesome craftsmanship, a symbol for a truly fascinating corner of the world. This way, something as simple as a dice design becomes an opportunity to create something incredibly unique. We feel confident to say there’s really nothing quite like them.”

Strange Mermaid Coloring Book
I keep checking out the #mermay hashtag on twitter this month to see the different mermaids everyone comes up with from octopus, to jellyfish, to lion fish and they’re all stunning. This coloring book is a collection of sixty strange and beautiful mermaids for you to color yourself. I’m seriously in love with the Nautilus mermaid. If you want something a little different to color when you’re relaxing, this book is a great choice.

“If there was such a job as a mermaid anthropologist, I would’ve been that instead of being an artist. Alas, cryptozoology has even less job security than freelance artistry, so I’ve stuck to drawing mermaids obsessively for the past 18 years. I’m Megan Rose Gedris, also known as Rosalarian, a comic book writer and illustrator from Chicago. I have loved mermaids my entire life, and have made countless stories about them. There are variations of mermaid legends in every culture around the world, and I love them all. In the Western tradition, mermaids have always been portrayed with a sort of generic fish on the bottom. After so many years of drawing generic fish mermaids, I started to grow restless. There are so many fish in the sea, so many strange water-dwelling creatures. What if I turned those into mermaids?

You know what lives in the water? Alligators. Bam, alligator mermaid. We’ve got clams, we’ve got snails, we’ve got turtles and sharks and axolotyls and nudibranches and whales and OMG even water bears. We’ve got dang ol’ tardigrade mermaids!!! Starfish and anglerfish and mantis shrimp and sea pigs, betta fish and lion fish and flying fish and honeycomb cowfish.”

Between Twilight and Dawn
Golden Goblin Press has a great history with Kickstarter and putting out incredible game content. They’re now kickstarting their second fiction collection, which has Mythos stories that take place between a single sunset and sunrise. Stories include an angry Jack of the Lantern, a 1980’s sleepover, a CIA monster hit man, and more!

“Between Twilight and Dawn is a collection of eleven horror and cosmic horror short stories totaling just over sixty thousand words. The theme of the collection is as its title says, all the stories begin at sunset and resolve by sunrise. These stories take place in a wide variety of locations and historical periods.

We hope to enlarge the collection considerably through stretch goals, including interior art and up to seven additional short stories (bringing the book’s length to possibly as many as 100,000 words). All the stories for this collection (including the stretch goal stories) are already written and edited. Once funded we expect to turn this project out very quickly.”
