There’s many interesting items to be found on Kickstarter, but these are the coolest ones this week.
Fear’s Sharp Little Needles
This book of one shot adventures for Call of Cthulhu has over 20 adventures, written by an impressive array of people. All of them look interesting and creepy, and I love that there’s even a one on one adventure included. Aser’s hoping to convert some of the adventures to Delta Green, and it looks like there’s some great candidates for that. I really appreciate that they will be tagging each adventure with the general plot and monsters so you don’t accidentally include the same monsters as last time you picked up this book.
“Fear’s Sharp Little Needles is a grand collection of Call of Cthulhu 7th edition scenarios in a modern setting (easily convertible to 6th edition). They focus on the darker aspects of horror roleplaying and, as such, are recommended for a mature audience.
More inspired by True Detective and Hannibal than Pulp Horror, these adventures involved mythos corruption of the Human psyche and many feature direct contact with entities from outside space and time. Ideally suited to one evening’s play, they have been written with a compact adventure style and Keepers will need a minimum of preparation time before being able to run them.”
A Hero’s Call: An Accessible Fantasy RPG
We love learning about new accessible games here, and this Fantasy RPG looks like it could be a lot of fun. Audio based games were a whole new experience for me, and I’m looking forward to what the developers, who are blind themselves, are going to put out. Everyone should have access to great computer games, and I’m excited to see what this one is like.
“A Hero’s Call is the premier title from Out of Sight Games. It’s a game originally designed for blind gamers – but inclusion is important to us, and we’re taking steps to make the game as accessible to sighted players as we can, as well. The game is a fantasy RPG with a strong focus on story and exploration – elements that blind gamers rarely get to enjoy to the same extent as sighted gamers.”
Alas for the Awful Sea
Alas for the Awful Sea promises a harsh look at the fishing community in the British Isles in the 1800s. The system is based on Apocalypse World, but they promise a much less forgiving mechanic overall. I really love the RPGs that are coming out that have such a narrow focus, because they promise a lot of depth and exploration. The art and premise of this game is really intriguing to me, and I hope to be playing it soon.
“Alas is a story-focused tabletop roleplaying game about a ship’s crew navigating the remote British Isles. There, they face a world consumed with suspicion, sadness, and desperation. Struggles for power have deadly consequences; mysterious disappearances plague the region; and those who seem human may not all be so. Amidst all this, the sea sends forth strange messages. Will you be the one to listen?
Suspense, seafaring and the supernatural all feature in Alas. But they’re not what this game is about. We created this game to tell grim stories about the complexities of the human heart. Alas for the Awful Sea is about why people hate, and what they fear. It is about desperation and the havoc it wreaks. In this world, there are no easy decisions. Friends come at a bitter cost, and even defeating enemies can have terrible consequences.”
The Wyrmwood Magnetic GM Screen
If you like to game in luxury, Wyrmwood Gaming is a company you should be paying attention to. I’ve been salivating over this GM Screen since they launched the kickstarter. It’s beautifully crafted from wood, and even better it’s completely modular. You can a set of drawers for storing dice, miniatures or markers, and even a two way dice roller that lets you and your players use it. There’s even option to have one of the panels rotate so you can easily show players maps and an initiative tracker. All of this comes, or course, in several beautiful types of wood. Like I said, if you’re looking for luxury, it’s right here.
“All components of the Wyrmwood Magnetic Game Master Screen are offered in several beautiful woods, both domestic and exotic, with pricing determined by your wood choice. No matter which you select, you can rest assured you will be receiving the Wyrmwood signature: handmade craftsmanship, an unconditional guarantee, and uncompromising service.”
