What’s Cool on Kickstarter

Exclusive Numenera Boxed Set Edition
“At Monte Cook Games, we love Numenera and we love Numenera fans. We want to give them the best, coolest, most wonderful products that we can create.

Now that the game has been out well over a year, won many awards, and garnered an audience of enthusiastic fans, we’d like to do something special–but only if it’s something that you’d like too. Our idea is to create a boxed set, like the RPG boxed sets of our youth, for this game. Only we’d love to make it absolutely beautiful and crammed full of all the coolest extra content we can come up with: character sheets, XP cards, and even a gorgeous cloth version of the poster map! With your help, we’re going to make it a reality. If this sounds cool to you, pledge now: This is a short Kickstarter, and once it’s over there is likely to never be another opportunity to get Numenera in a boxed edition!

(Already own Numenera? Don’t worry–we’ve got some things that will interest you as well as those new to the game.)”

I love Numenera and the cypher system, and Monte Cook Games is releasing a beautiful box full of exclusive content including maps, signed art prints, dice, a game mat, and glimmers.

Masks of Nyarlathotep Prop Set
“The basic set includes forty-five individual handouts -two full-sized newspaper front pages, a pocket journal, a book of matches, several scrolls, numerous clippings, telegrams, letters, etc.- all lovingly reproduced from the originals available in the Masks of Nyarlathotep campaign book.

Designing this set, the most important priority was realism. To this point, great lengths have been taken to achieve a remarkable level of historical accuracy- helping produce a highly immersive environment for players and keeper alike.

If you’re looking to build a believable world for your players, this set was designed for you.”

Protocol Game Series 2: 15 More Games
“The Protocol game series is a collection of roleplaying games that strip away all pretense and get to the heart of storytelling. Each game uses the same basic mechanics — vignettes, interrogations, interludes, and ensembles — to tell non-derivative stories. Every player has all the tools he or she needs to create interesting characters and environments for their favorite stories. These games use a simple method of shared storytelling with charts, motivations, character interaction, and plot.

Every game stands alone. Every game shares a commonality.”

We finally played a game of Protocol and had a lot of fun. I’m excited to get my hands on some of these new playsets and play some more!

What’s Cool on Kickstarter

If you follow me at all on Twitter, you’ve probably realized that I spend a lot of time on Kickstarter. Here are some of the projects that may be of interest:

Silent Legions: A Sandbox Horror
Silent Legions is a modern-day Lovecraftian role-playing game, one built to support a sandbox style of gaming and the creation of your own diabolical Mythos. While compatible with the Stars Without Number game system and many other classic old-school games,Silent Legions is built to stand alone and provide you with everything you need to develop a grim world of unspeakable occult secrets and mad, sorcerous scheming.”

The Dracula Dossier
Dracula is not a novel. It’s the censored version of Bram Stoker’s after-action report of the failed British Intelligence attempt to recruit a vampire in 1894. Kenneth Hite has restored the deleted sections, inserting annotations and clues left by three generations of MI6 analysts. This is Dracula Unredacted.

Follow those clues to The Director’s Handbook, containing hundreds of encounters: shady NPCs, dangerous locations, conspiratorial nodes, and mysterious objects. Together they comprise The Dracula Dossier — an epic improvised, collaborative campaign for Night’s Black Agents, our award-winning vampire spy thriller RPG.

The mission: Hunt and kill Dracula now, once and for all, before Britain falls to him forever.”

Shotguns and Sorcery
“Explore the fantasy noir campaign setting Shotguns & Sorcery™. Written by S&S author, Matt Forbeck, and powered by the just announced Cypher System™ from Monte Cook Games, the Shotguns & Sorcery core book contains all you need to play in one book. Defy the power of the Imperial Dragon Guard. Try your luck against the undead outside the Great Circle. New challenges, old foes and allies: a whole new setup to explore.

Shotguns & Sorcery is set in Dragon City, a grim and gritty fantasy metropolis built on top of and inside of a walled-off mountain and ruled over by the Dragon Emperor. Legions of zombies scratch at the cut stones of the Great Circle every hour of the night, trying to tear the wall down for their mysterious necromantic commander, the Ruler of the Dead.”

Magnets made of RPG Dice
“Hold up your maps, notes, and pics in style! Magnets made out of whole RPG dice. For the serious gamer and dice lover.”

Major Effect Dice: The Portal Design, Monolith Orange, and Weird Blue
These dice are specially designed for use with the Cypher system, and have special markings to remind you of the effects for rolling a 1, 17, 18, 19, or 20. I kickstarted the previous set and am receiving d20’s. I haven’t decided what more dice to order yet – probably all three!
