#RPGaDay Day 19: Favorite Published Adventure

TRF is taking part in #RPGaDay! We’ll answer each question as a group, and would love to hear your responses as well, here or on Twitter. (Shaunna made up her own categories for those she has no answer to)

For August 19, our question is what your favorite published adventure?

Aser – Despite quite a few little errors PX Poker Night for Delta Green holds a special place in my heart because it is the seed from which TRF sprung.A lot of what makes our playthrough special comes from Mike of course, but the original scenario is very solid and comes to you at the extremely reasonable price of free. The official published adventures for Numenèra have been great too, with each illustrating just how alien the Ninth World really is: with my favorite being Beyond All Worlds. I am a big fan of scenarios written by RPPR contributor Caleb Stokes as well.

John – D&D X1, Isle of Dread

Landan – Kingmaker for Pathfinder

Megan – Beyond all Worlds for Numenera. I streamlined some parts of it to keep it a shorter adventure for our one shot, but I think it is a great and flexible adventure.

Shaunna – Favorite D&D Podcast battle: Thom and the Kraken.

#RPGaDay Day 18: Favorite Game System

TRF is taking part in #RPGaDay! We’ll answer each question as a group, and would love to hear your responses as well, here or on Twitter.

For August 18, our question is what your favorite game system?

Aser – I really like Eclipse Phase, but ultimately it’s a system that does one thing extraordinarily well. However much I may dislike some of its combat quirks, I think my favorite may be BRP, the percentile system behind Call of Cthulhu. I particularly like the way in which a PC improves their skills between sessions, by rolling to fail any skills they successfully employed on their previous outing. It seems very organic and encourages players to actually use their skills. With the release of The Strange, we’ll get to see just how versatile the Cypher System is, and it may become my favorite in short order.

John – Eclipse Phase
(Reading Call of Cthulhu 7th ed and I really like it!)

Landan – Pathfinder by Paizo

Megan – I really love Numenera. I can’t wait for my copy of The Strange to arrive!

Shaunna – It’s hard to pick one, so far. There are different things that I enjoy about different games–so, I enjoy the simple gameplay and character creation of Numenera…I enjoy the ability to play a fun Fiasco game on a whim…I love the character that I’ve been able to create in Pathfinder.

#RPGaDay Day 17: Funniest Game you’ve played

TRF is taking part in #RPGaDay! We’ll answer each question as a group, and would love to hear your responses as well, here or on Twitter.

For August 17, our question is what is the funniest game you’ve played?

Aser – I suppose Fiasco has led to the most laughs for me, but the TRF crew can be relied upon to extract humor from the oddest, not to mention the darkest, places you can imagine. Funniest session was Bookhounds of London.

Ashleigh – Fiasco wins this one by a mile!

John – TOON by Steve Jackson. My cousin was a crazed duck named Zagnut who hated pickles and I was Polly NoBeard a turtle pirate. Fun game!

Landan – I think the Renaissance Fair themed Fiasco playset that was made by The Redacted Files own Ashleigh Shadowbrook and friend Stephanie Kingston. I think we broke the limit on the amount of innuendo one could tolerate without losing sanity.

Megan – The funniest game I’ve played is when I got super wasted and GM-ed, which involved me allowing a player to re-roll a one. I don’t remember much past that. I think I’ve had the most fun playing Final Girl though, I love horror movies and horror movie tropes.

Shaunna – Fiasco with Ash Shadowbrook, Nika Howard, Nicole Weaver, and Dean Thompson–even though we never finished the story, we had a fierce rivalry between fortunetellers, spirit bear grease, potential romance, and a real-life appearance of a Tim Horton’s during the Google Hangout

#RPGaDay Day 16: Game you wish you owned

TRF is taking part in #RPGaDay! We’ll answer each question as a group, and would love to hear your responses as well, here or on Twitter.

For August 16, our question is what is the game you wish you owned?

Aser – But I want so many…! I think at the top of the list would be Edge of the Empire, or pretty much any Star Wars RPG, something that frustrates me because the game is out, but not available in a format I can enjoy. But I also want some of the now out of print licensed stuff like Star Trek, Babylon 5 and Battlestar Galactica. The Warhammer family of games also holds a great deal of appeal. Oh yeah, and Trail of Cthulhu, right John?

John – Probably ‘Trail of Cthulhu’ or ‘Night’s Black Agents’

Megan – Since Aser got me Laundry Files recently, I have to go with The Dresden Files.

Shaunna – The Strange–grrr–I preordered the deluxe corebook and my order has been “glitched” and “cancelled”, so I’m envious of the people who are starting to get their copies in the mail!

#RPGaDay Day 15: Favorite Convention Game

TRF is taking part in #RPGaDay! We’ll answer each question as a group, and would love to hear your responses as well, here or on Twitter.

For August 15, our question is what is your favorite convention game?

Aser – I haven’t done con games, though think they could be a lot of fun.

John – never been to a Con. Maybe next year?

Landan – At Geekly Con 2014 playing in a Pathfinder Game DM’d by The Redacted Files own Nika Howard, and a Call of Cthulhu game DM’d by Veronica and Josh of Cthulhu and Friends. It may not have been a true convention but I am counting it.

Megan – Same as earlier, never been to one

Shaunna – Never been to a convention–maybe GeeklyCon2015?

#RPGaDay Day 14: Best Convention Purchase

TRF is taking part in #RPGaDay! We’ll answer each question as a group, and would love to hear your responses as well, here or on Twitter.

For August 14, our question is what is your best convention purchase?

Aser – Unfortunately, no cons under my belt yet so no purchases there to brag about.

John – never been to a Con. Maybe next year?

Landan – None

Megan – No conventions for me either. I am hoping to go to one next summer!

Shaunna – Never been to a convention–maybe GeeklyCon2015?

#RPGaDay Day 13: Most Memorable Character Death

TRF is taking part in #RPGaDay! We’ll answer each question as a group, and would love to hear your responses as well, here or on Twitter.

For August 13, our question is what is your most memorable character death?

Aser – My favorite character death is still my first, where I manipulated the situation to draw attention away from my character’s lover by falsely admitting his guilt. That was fun.

John – My first game of 1st Ed AD&D, my half-orc assassin found a magic spear three rooms into the dungeon; threw it to test it out. DM random roll proved it to be a cursed spear of back-biting and it came back around and killed me!

Landan – The death of Tum Darkblade on the Drunks & Dragons podcast, and then every character Veronica the GM for Cthulhu & Friends podcast has killed or taken control over. I think Xander and Anya were my favorites on how they ended. You didn’t specify it had to be a character I played which would be none.

Megan – I’ve never had one of my characters die, and have only killed one PC. So I’ll go with TRF’s episode of Final Girl, Dead Wrong. I loved the deaths on the catwalk, the creepy inescapable doom.

Shaunna – I haven’t had any character deaths!

#RPGaDay Day 12: Old RPG you still play/read

TRF is taking part in #RPGaDay! We’ll answer each question as a group, and would love to hear your responses as well, here or on Twitter.

For August 12, our question is what is an old RPG you still play/read?

Aser – I still have a soft spot for Call of Cthulhu and the 1990s Delta Green. We’ll have to see whether the new editions coming out carve out a new niche in my heart.

John – red box D&D I love it so! X1 Isle of Dread, Top Ballista, Tall Tales of the Wee Folk, Shadow Elves, Gazeteers… Sigh.

Landan – None at the moment

Megan – I guess Call of Cthulhu, most of what I play is more recent.

Shaunna – It’s a new hobby for me…nothing’s old yet!

#RPGaDay Day 11: Weirdest RPG Owned

TRF is taking part in #RPGaDay! We’ll answer each question as a group, and would love to hear your responses as well, here or on Twitter.

For August 11, our question is what is the weirdest RPG you own?

Aser – We have too many contenders for this prize, I’ll have to get back to you when we start writing game reviews.

Landan – Fiasco it is fun to play but definitely gets the most weird.

John – weirdest? Maybe Lords of Creation: intended for god-level advancement, you could meet Greek Gods or Mantis people or androids and mix settings as you learned to control space and time, reality itself.

Megan – I own a bunch that I haven’t had a chance to play yet thanks to Bundle of Holding, so out of the ones I’ve played maybe Final Girl? I like that it uses a deck of cards instead of dice. We just need to get Fortune’s Fool and play one with Tarot cards, or Dread and use a jenga tower!

Shaunna – Numenera

#RPGaDay Day 10: Favorite tie-in Novel / Game Fiction

TRF is taking part in #RPGaDay! We’ll answer each question as a group, and would love to hear your responses as well, here or on Twitter.

For August 10, our question is what is your favorite tie-in Novel / Game Fiction?

Aser – I haven’t gotten to read any of it as yet, but the Warhammer 40k fiction just seems utterly fascinating to me.Its over-the-top violence, bleakness and decadence just seems so, well, delightfully over-the top. I have to try those novels.

John – Ravenloft and Dark Sun novels

Landan -Currently it would be Star Wars but we will see how The Dresden Files turns out

Megan – Does Dresden Files count? Because I have more then a slight obsession with those. I have a couple of Warhammer 40k books a friend lent me, but haven’t gotten to them yet.

Shaunna – Jaeludra fan fiction
