What’s Cool on Kickstarter

There’s many interesting items to be found on Kickstarter, and here are the coolest ones this week.

Vurt: The Tabletop Roleplaying Game
I’ve never read the novels this game is based on, but it’s using the Cypher System to create a new world to play in. Plus the sci-fi weirdness of this world seems very interesting, and a pretty great fit for the Cypher System

“Vurt: The Tabletop Roleplaying Game is an RPG based on the visionary and hallucinatory science fiction of author Jeff Noon (who won the Arthur C. Clarke Award for Vurt in 1994). Amid the glass-strewn streets of the lethal and anarchic Manchester England of the near future, players ingest slender Vurt feathers to travel to parallel worlds as vivid, unique, and unpredictable as our wildest dreams. But they’re no mere fantasies. These worlds – and all the wonders and horrors they contain – are as a real, and every bit as dangerous, as the one you were born in.

The ability to seamlessly transition to the shared dreamscapes of the Vurt and then back to Manchester’s gritty cyberpunk scene without missing a beat – without having to change the game in any way or fumble with changing game mechanics – is what makes Vurt: The Tabletop Roleplaying Game so perfectly suited to the incredible versatility of the Cypher System by Monte Cook Games. (If you’ve already played Numenera or The Strange, then you’re already familiar with the flexibility and ease of the Cypher System rulebook and it’s capacity for facilitating great adventures.) The perfect alignment of Jeff Noon’s prismatic source material with the flexible, low-maintenance framework of the Cypher System rulebook is why Vurt: The Tabletop Roleplaying Game is the first officially licensed Cypher System game based on an existing fictional universe—and it’s why Jeff Noon allowed us to bring his work to tabletop gamers around the world in the form of a luxurious, 300 page full color hardcover rulebook filled with vivid art.”

At the Mountains of Madness: Interactive Book
This looks like a great way to experience one of Lovecraft’s most famous stories.

“At the Mountains of Madness is a report on the events of a disastrous expedition to Antarctica. The story is told by Geologist William Dyer who is the leader of the expedition. Dyer is lonely and desperate, and he also wants to deter a much publicized planned expedition to Antarctica based on his own experience on the continent. The report is his attempt to save mankind from the Antarctic horror.

At the Mountains of Madness Interactive eBook is a media project in the form of an app for iOS and Android.

Imagine that you’re opening the notes of Dr. William Dyer, the geology professor and leader of the disastrous Miskatonic University Expedition to Antarctica in 1930-1931.

You will find photos of landscapes, drawings and sketches of his colleagues and students who disappeared in the ice.”

Mint Tin Mini Apocalypse
If you like gaming on the go, then this is definitely a project you’ll be interested in. It comes with the dice, pieces, and instructions you’lll need. And the instructions are even waterproof! I think it looks like a lot of fun, and would be a great game to carry around.

“A little worker placement, a lot of resource management, and some area control all in a real-time game.

It’s a nice day in Meepleton. You and your friends are enjoying the day without a care in the world when suddenly . . .BOOM! Transformers blow, cars crash, people fall to the ground. Phew, you’re wobbly but okay. RAWR! Nearby a giant, nefarious monster wreaks havoc! Be forewarned: this is no B-movie monster. It has its own intelligence, specifically level 2 AI (artificial intelligence) as defined by Tom Jolly. Hurry! Get your team to the school’s forgotten fallout shelter.

Once two or more of your team members make it inside the shelter, send out a reconnaissance pair to grab a box of supplies. One box is plenty and it doesn’t matter if you or your opponent gets it. But the monster spots you once you grab a box – so you gotta be fast! The shelter holds a max of 7 meeples and it takes 4 from the same team to pull the door closed. Do what you must to survive – If you’re standing outside, knock down an opponent and make them scramble to their feet again. If you’re in the shelter, shove an opponent out and make room for your team. Once the fallout shelter is closed, it sucks to be outside!

But wait! It might not be over if you spot a manhole cover. Grab it and knock the monster down or use it to pry open the fallout shelter. If you grab the cover before you secure the box of supplies, the nefarious monster will surely notice you. So don’t waste time but be careful! This is a simultaneous, competitive, and frantic 2 player game all packed into a tiny tin. So ridiculously small that it makes other microgames look monstrously huge!”

Chaos of Cthulhu
Have you ever wanted to build a being of unmentionable horror while beating your friends at a game? Now’s your chance! This is a relaunch of a previous Kickstarter, but it looks like a great game, especially if you have a great group of friends to play with.

“A pantheon of Elder Beings from the mind of H. P. Lovecraft has been unwittingly set loose in the basement of the teenager next door. The catch? The Necronomicon, or Book of the Dead, used to summon the creatures was torn asunder in an argument between the teen and her friends. The stars are definitely not aligned, the essential grimoire has been mended with tape, and the monsters appear as hybrid abominations, eager for the chaos of battle. The tournament to find the strongest amongst them begins…

Take hold of the damaged tome and summon forth a unique Lovecraftian nightmare, mix-and-matched from 6 different Old Ones and Dark Minions. Then clash in strategic dice battle to be the first to assemble a fully matched monster. Part strategy, part luck…all madness!”

All Fathomed Out
This game is about ocean exploration to be the first to find a new species and presumably be able to be the first person to name them. It rubs me a little the wrong way that this game only accounts for mustachioed men being at the forefront of scientific exploration, but I can let it slide. The art and set up for this box are gorgeous, and its worth checking out!

“It’s 1878, and All Fathomed Out pits 3-6 players against each other in a family friendly race to discover and catalog the most noteworthy new species brought up from the uncharted waters of the South Pacific. These mustachioed men of science face not only stiff competition from their fellow explorers as they dive (only one man can take credit for discovering each species, after all, and science waits for no one) but also the multitudinous natural dangers and perilous creatures that lurk in the briny deeps.

As you explore the beautiful hex-based ocean you’ll uncover aquatic species ripe for the cataloging, environmental events both fair and foul, and underhanded shenanigans the unscrupulous can use to tip the balance in their favor (the scallywags!).”

What’s Cool on Kickstarter

There’s many interesting items to be found on Kickstarter, and here are the coolest ones this week.

Numenera: Into the Ninth World
I already discussed this a bit when the kickstarter started, but I wanted to reiterate that you guys should check out these supplements for Numenera. It’s an amzing game, and these are only going to expand the opportunities within it. There will be three books, and stretch goals include a novel written by Shanna Germain, poster maps, glimmers, and more.

“Over a billion years of Earth’s future, great civilizations have risen and fallen, each attaining wonders beyond our wildest dreams and furthest imaginings. The remnants of these civilizations shaped the Ninth World into a place of incredible beauty, wonder, and danger. And weirdness. Oh, so much weirdness. Explorers who undertake the challenges presented by the Ninth World look not only to the wilderness, but also to the night sky, the ocean depths, and even into the worlds beyond that they cannot easily perceive.

This Kickstarter campaign takes us into these realms through several new titles that expand the Ninth World beyond Earth’s shores. We’re launching this campaign to fund Into the Night, Into the Deep, and Into the Outside, each an all-new 160-page hardcover supplement, along with the 100-card Numenera Artifact Deck. But with your help, we’ll take these books even further, and maybe add some new titles as well!”

AcadeCon 2015
AcadeCon is a small gaming convention put on by the RPG Academy. What makes this really special is that is limited to 150 tickets, only available through the kickstarter, and has some big guests like James D’Amato, Kat Murphy, DM Mitch, John Wick, and more! We talked to Mike and Caleb about AcadeCon here, but you should check it out!

“AcadeCon 2015 is our third annual gaming convention. We’ve hosted two successful cons, but they have been invite-only due to space limitations. This year, we are taking AcadeCon out into the wild and opening the doors to the public this November 13th, 14th, and 15th.

AcadeCon is specifically designed to be a small, non-traditional convention. We are not trying (nor do we want to) compete with or replace the huge conventions that attract a national audience. At our convention, you’re going to get access to 24-hour gaming, a better chance to play in games and spend time with special guests, and time to hang out with some of the best gamers in the world – the fans of our show!

Whether you are one of our listeners, are interested in meeting and playing with some of our special guests, or just found us by accident, we hope you’ll consider attending our convention or simply donating to the cause.”

The Things We Leave Behind
We’re always on the lookout for cool new scenarios, and this collection of modern day 7e Call of Cthulhu scenarios quickly caught our attention. It includes five scenarios set in the modern day that involve psychological horror.

“Taking its inspirational cues from Delta Green, Fargo, Blood Simple, and True Detective, the book takes a mature look at the horror of human nature and its ability to be just as disturbing as anything from the Mythos.

The scenarios deal with unavoidable fates, dark secrets, and seriously bad choices made by the antagonists. As so often is the case, there are no winners when fate has trapped you in a dice game for doom or destiny. As such, please be aware that some of themes are quite mature and are suitable for adult gamers only.”

Zodiac Empires
This looks like a pretty interesting new setting for Pathfinder and RPG. I like the combination of magic and technology, and that seems to play heavily into the bones of this setting.

“The realm of Vathis is a world in an age of early industrialization where the line between magic and technology is obscure at best, and oftentimes indistinguishable. Rich in history and lore, adventurers roam lands dotted with sprawling empires, devious hidden cults, and ruins shrouded in darkness. While revered heroes march headlong into battle, recently reawakened dragons take flight, transforming both land and sky into battlegrounds. Gritty realism and high fantasy come together in Zodiac Empires, a world built on the memory of great wars, political intrigue, and imperialism.

Notable moments in real-world history, such as the Age of Sail, Prohibition Era Organized Crime, and both World Wars, as well as media sources such as the novels in the ASoIaF series and video games such as Dishonored, have all left their mark on the setting. Expect to experience fierce nationalism, streets filled with pulp action, scenes of noir intrigue, evils lurking in the dark, and corruption both political and physical as you travel between nations.”

Meta Dice
They aren’t really the prettiest dice, but they work very easily for several tasks.

“Meta Dice are 16mm PolyEurea plastic etched dice designed to be compatible with a variety of pen & paper RPGs. These dice can, for instance, double as Fudge/Fate dice and regular d6. They can also be used with games such as Burning Wheel, Mouse Guard, Torchbearer, the FU RPG, Dying Earth, Ubiquity, Prince Valiant, Story Engine, Foreign Element, and countless others that use a success/failure dynamic.

The hit locations correspond with those used in the Warhammer 40k RPGs, the older Warhammer Fantasy RPG, Reign, the OD&D supplement ‘Blackmoor,’ and many, many others. Heck, more limber people could use these for a really complex game of Twister!”

News and Advice Round-up

News and Advice

Chaosium is Under New Management (Again):
Moon Design is now part of Chaosium’s ownership group. Moon Design acquired the rights to Glorantha and the game systems RuneQuest and HeroQuest in 2013. This also prompted a change in leadership within Chaosium, “The four principals of Moon Design are the new management team of Chaosium. The new officers of the company are Rick Meints, President and Secretary; Jeff Richard, Vice President and Creative Director; Michael O’Brien, Vice President – Product Development & Community Outreach; and Neil Robinson, Chief Financial Officer.” This announcement also brought new hope in terms of receiving Call of Cthulhu 7e, it is on it’s way to the printers and should be available for Halloween 2015. Moon Design has had previous experience with Kickstarters and should be able to help get CoC 7e back on track.

Strange Aeons: A Lovecraftian Pathfinder AP:
Pathfinder has finally joined in on adding the Mythos to their game. This adventure path will be released next August, and feature Mythos monsters. Unlike most Lovecraftian RPGs, like Call of Cthulhu, this will not be investigation based, focused more on killing the horrors. There will be insanity rules and a Corruption system. Wes Schneider is writing the first module, so it should be pretty interesting. I’m curious to pick this up, a huge part of Lovecraftian horror is that it’s inexplicable, so turning it into a monster hunt seems to miss the point. However, I trust Paizo enough to give it a chance!

Another Dungeons and Dragons Movie:
Warner Bros. and Hasbro have announced they will be making a Dungeons and Dragons movie. They already have a script by David Leslie Johnson, who wrote “The Conjuring 2” and “Wrath of the Titans.” Stephen Davis said, “This is such an enormous opportunity to bring the rich fantasy setting of the Forgotten Realms to life and, together with the creative powerhouse of Warner Bros., use movies to tell the stories that have enchanted passionate D&D fans for decades. D&D is the role-playing game that started it all and now we have the opportunity to ignite a franchise for its legions of avid fans in a way never done before.” I’m not holding my breath, every D&D movie I’ve seen has been not good, and what is great about RPGs is telling your own story.

Gen Con has record Attendance:
Gen Con attendance went up another 9%, making this the 6th year of growth for the convention. 61,423 people attended and there were over 400 vendors. I imagine it will only continue to climb, and I can’t wait to go next year.

Congratulations to Ennie Winners!:
Several TRF favorites won Ennies this year, including Horror on the Orient Express, The Strange, Numenera, Miskatonic University, and Roll20! Congratulations to everyone and thank you for putting out so much wonderful material for us to enjoy!

Numenera: Into the Ninth World Kickstarter

Monte Cook Games launched another Kickstarter today at 9 AM PST and managed to get full funding in one hour. This kickstarter is for supplements tone of our favorite games – Numenera. There are three planned books so far: Into the Night, which introduces space exploration; Into the Deep, which takes your group deep into the ocean; and Into the Outside, which allows you to explore other dimensions. You can get each book as PDFs or as hard copies, and higher pledges offer opportunities to playtest, meet the MCG team, and even participate in a game run by Monte Cook! Other book maybe added as stretch goals, and the campaign is already close to passing the third stretch goal announced. Besides the books, several pledge levels include a deck of artifact cards that a GM can use to let their game run smoother.

If you love Numenera, you should definitely be looking at what this kickstarter has to offer. If you’re curious to try, now is a great time to jump in! One pledge will offers a copy and PDF of the core book as well as an expansion of your choice. Be sure to visit the Kickstarter and see what you can get!

What’s Cool on Kickstarter

There’s many interesting items to be found on Kickstarter, and here are the coolest ones this week.

Cultists of Cthulhu
I love cooperative games, so this semi-cooperative Cthulhu game seems like a real winner. Plus if it gets funded in the first 48 hours, they’re going to include the special two player mode in all copies of the game for free.

“It is a dark and stormy night. A lightning bolt has shattered the Elder Sign over the entrance to Miskatonic University’s library, leaving open the path for unspeakable eldritch horrors to encroach upon our world. Are you an Academic, investigating these strange happenings and trying to preserve your school, yourself, and your sanity? Or are you the Cultist, secretly plotting the downfall of your so-called “friends”?

After the success of our first game, Professor Pugnacious, I wanted to try something more ambitious, and thus, Cultists of Cthulhu was born. Cultists of Cthulhu is a semi-cooperative game for 3-6 players. All but one of the players are Academics, working together to accomplish the scenario-specific goals, while the final player is the Cultist, who pretends to be an academic while secretly working to kill the other players.”

RPG Coasters
These coasters are gorgeous, and you can can even get them personalized for your group. More classes are going to be available as stretch goals. I think these would be awesome for a long running campaign.

“RPG coasters have classic fantasy class icons and names carved into hardwood. These coasters, or drink enhancers, are made for you and your whole rag-tag party of do-gooders and ne’er-do-wells. They complete any gaming space by making sure that surfaces stay in tip-top shape and our significant others remain free from drink-ring induced stress. ”

Pennypult
Yay trebuchets! They really want you to buy them for office warfare – you can get them branded with your company logo. They’re easy to build and fun to play with.

“The Pennypult is miniature siege weapon. By definition, it is a trebuchet or a gravity-powered catapult. The kit comes with everything you need to build your very own desk sized trebuchet. All you need is a flat surface and 16 pennies. We believe the Pennypult is a step above the other trebuchet kits on the market. It’s smaller, easier to build, and more fun. Additionally, it has a unique design that you won’t find anywhere else.”

Fablestone Dice
I love the idea of these dice – they work very neatly as d3 and d2 as well. There are some great color options and they look really unique.

“The problem is the dice we typically use just don’t have an appearance that is consistent with something that could be found in a fantasy setting. Even those with additional artwork still rely on either the standard dice pip layout or the same Hindu-Arabic characters (0, 1, 2 … 9) that we encounter everywhere in our daily life.

I like to think that just as the worlds we explore often have their own languages, they would also have their own systems for representing numbers that are different from our own. The idea behind Fablestone Dice is to have dice that don’t use regular pips and numbers, but instead use a completely new kind of way to communicate; one that could have been conceived by inhabitants of any one of our favourite fantasy settings.”

Wheel of Flame Candle
These candles could be a really awesome addition of your campaign, with scents inspired campaigns. Plus, hidden inside, is a nice metal die from Norse Foundry!

“Each candle includes a metal die from Norse Foundry embedded in the wax. As your candle burns down, a beautifully crafted and satisfyingly heavy D4, D6, D8, D10, D12, or D20 will emerge from the molten goop. The different dice are randomly placed in the candles, so you won’t know which die you’re getting until your candle starts to burn down. Who needs diamond rings in candles when you can have dice?!”

What’s Cool on Kickstarter

There’s many interesting items to be found on Kickstarter, and here are the coolest ones this week.

Downfall
Aser and I have recently begun looking for some interesting storytelling games to add to our to play list, and this one definitely looks like it will be up our alley. A perfect world that is collapsing due to a fatal flaw while a hero tries to save it? Sounds perfect.

“Downfall is a role-playing game that explores the collapse of a society, a cataclysm brought about by a fatal Flaw at work within it. First you sit down and build your world, then you destroy it. You tell the story of a hero who tries to save their home. But in Downfall, the hero fails.

The game works in any kind of setting, from mythical fantasy to the real world to high-flying science fiction. It’s made to tell a whole story in a single 2-4 hour session and doesn’t require preparation, dice, or a GM. ”

Steampunk Militia Miniatures
I really like the look of these miniatures, but we don’t play any steampunk games they’d be relevant for at the moment. You should really give them a look and think about adding them to your collection.

“My name is Andrew May, I have been working as a freelance sculptor of wargaming figures for the last couple of years and now also run my own miniatures business “Meridian Miniatures”. Nearly two years ago I ran my first Kickstarter campaign for a “Steampunk Army” and now comes the follow up “Steampunk Militia” campaign to complement the military figures with their civilian counterparts in the “Steam & Aether” table top setting.

As you can see below the, initial miniatures are already sculpted with the pre production painted masters shown. In each of my previous campaigns I have tried to avoid leaving to much ambiguity between the miniatures promised and the actual product you will receive, where possible I try to avoid relying on renders and “concept art”. Occasionally I will illustrate an idea using either but feel I have built up the reputation for delivering on promises by this stage that you won’t be disappointed.”

Dungeons on Demand 2
You can get some nice instant dungeons with traps, monsters and treasure all ready to drop on your players with little to no preparation. Sometimes you just need a dungeon while you plot out the next step, and it’s only $5.

“Dungeons on Demand are instant dungeons you can drop into your campaign, each is designed for 4-5 player parties of specified levels, and each dungeon is complete with a back story, hand drawn maps, traps, puzzles, and reference information to monsters and treasure. You can customize each one to fit in your campaign however you wish, and each one can be played through in one or two gaming sessions (depending upon how long you play!)”

Marked for Death: A Comedic Fate module about assassins
I think adding some slap-stick fun into your assassination attempts makes everything a little better when you’re playing Fate.

“Marked For Death is a FATE Module which lets you play as a group of assassins and choose how to eliminate your targets in hilariously unfair situations! Marked For Death’s gameplay is designed to be a challenging experience, where ridiculous things still happen on occasion.

You are a small group of well-trained individuals going up against a much larger force. Guile and planning are your greatest allies; although hiding behind a plant in an otherwise empty hallway is always an option…”

Pour Over Lovecraft’s notes for At the Mountain’s of Madness
Lovecraft’s notes have been posted by Author Paul Tremblay on Instagram. It looks like you might have to sacrifice some sanity to decipher them. Just don’t stare at it for too long…

NASA Discovers Earth’s Older Cousin
“This particular planet’s combination of factors – including the type of star, the planet’s distance from it and its size – make it the closest analogue to Earth ever found, the scientists said.”

Kepler-452b circles a sun-like star about 1400 light-years away. It’s bigger then earth, but has a similar orbit around it’s sun. They’ve determined it is approximately 6 billion years old, giving it time to develop life if other important factors are present. This is super exciting as a geek, and is it wrong that my first thought went to how to incorporate the aliens that live on Kepler-452b into a game? I don’t think so.

4 Tips for Running Published Adventures
I run a lot of published adventures. I’ve only recently begun feeling comfortable enough to tell my own stories, or even change published adventures to make them my own. The railroad tracks are nice and safe. But I think the advice given here is a great way to let go of the railroad track set down in a published adventure. It’s alright, just let them go and embrace the story that is being developed between you and your players. It doesn’t mean you have to throw the whole story out, it just takes a little more work.

Meet the New Pathfinder Iconics
Pathfinder is releasing Occult Adventures on the 29th, and they’ve begun to introduce their new iconic characters. You can find them on Paizo’s website, or all the links are in the article I linked to. The new classes that will be available are occultist, spiritualist, psychic, medium, mesmerist, and kineticist. I’m interested to see how these new classes work in a game, but I can see them to be a little difficult at first to figure out exactly how to fit them in.

Review: Worlds Numberless and Strange

What will you find as you venture into Earth’s shoals?

Witch covens battle in the mammoth city of Halloween. Nazis struggle to master mythological relics in the Eleventh Reich. T. rexes hunt hominids on the tropical island of Mesozoica, while skyships fend off pirates and predators in the tempestuous cloud seas of Seishin Shore.

In The Strange, recursions—limited pocket dimensions with their own laws of reality—are seeded from human fiction and mythology. A recursor might discover Atlantis, Oz, the Victorian London of Sherlock Holmes, or places even more bizarre and perilous. Worlds Numberless and Strange takes you to dozens of new recursions, where supervillains, dinosaurs, space troopers, killer robots, gods, and other dangers guard wonders and treasures few people on Earth have ever seen!

This week has been an awesome time to be a fan of MCG. The PDF of for the Cypher System was sent out to those who pre-ordered, the Numenera Reliquary boxes are being shipped out, and Worlds Numberless and Strange was released. WNS is a supplement for The Strange, a game that we love quite a bit here at TRF. The Strange imagines an Earth with an unimaginable number of recursions that the adventurers can travel to, including the fantasy world Ardeyn, the sci-fi world Ruk, and more including 221B Baker Street, Innsmouth, and Crow Hollow. There are recursions for almost any imagined fictional world, and all you have to do is imagine it.

Worlds Numberless and Strange provides 70 new recursions to add to your game. Seventeen of these are very well fleshed out with detailed information, history, cthulhuindividuals you might encounter, and artifacts that are present within that recursion. The others are just seeds that the GM can use as a starting point for their own ideas. I really love the table at the beginning of the chapter that the GM can roll on to determine which recursion they might accidentally translate into. I think the recursion seed Aser and I were both the most excited for was R’lyeh, which you can get shot by your superiors for visiting. If you survive that is. No one wants Cthulhu gain the spark and become able to translate.

The new recursion I was most excited about is Microcosmica, which I microdescribed as those episodes of Magic School Bus where they go inside various students to learn the inner workings of the human body. Aser likened it to Fantastic Voyage, and since they used a quote from the movie at the beginning of the listing, that might be the more accurate representation. But if you think there won’t be a yellow school bus zooming around if I have players show up in Microcosmica you are sorely mistaken. Plus there’s the new descriptor “Becomes Bacterial” which I want with every bit of my biochemist’s heart.

Aser really enjoyed the Rebel Galaxy recursion, inspired by all of your favorite space operas. Since we just encountered Darth Vader in our Strange game, and have recently decided we need a Star Wars game in the Cypher System this recursion is full of some pretty helpful ideas in setting that up. One of the most valuable set of rules provided was those for ship to ship combat, which included ways to take out the enemies ship without necessarily shooting them down.

rebelOther recursions include an alternate reality where the Nazis won, a steampunk Camelot, Atlantis, Zombies, Superheroes, and Dinosaurs. There are plenty more, but I don’t want to give away all of the awesomeness included. Besides this, there’s more information about regions and organizations within Ardeyn and Ruk, as well as new artifacts for those worlds. There are a handful of new descriptors that are tied to the new recursions, including Becomes Bacterial, and some new creatures.

If you’re looking for some new places to take your group, or just some inspiration for your game you should pick up Worlds Numberless and Strange. It’s a beautiful, informative book with lots of plot hooks, individuals to encounter, and worlds to explore. I can’t wait to head to some of those recursions in our own game. It is available from DriveThruRPG and the MCG Store. The PDF is $16.99 and the book is $44.99.

What’s Cool on Kickstarter

There’s many interesting items to be found on Kickstarter, and here are the coolest ones this week.

Starvation Cheap: Planetary Warfare for Stars Without Number
We haven’t tried Stars Without Number yet, but adding new rules for military campaigns sounds pretty awesome.

“Starvation Cheap is a military campaign supplement for the free Stars Without Number sci-fi tabletop role-playing game. It’s written to provide the reader with all the tools they need for building a sandbox-style military campaign focused on planetary armies and mercenary legions. Everything from the construction of wars and vital military objectives down to the gritty details of building a battlefield adventure is provided in this 100+ page book.

While written for Stars Without Number, the great majority of the tools in this book are system-neutral, perfectly usable with the sci-fi game of your choice.”

Cardboard Clothing: Apparel for the Modern Board Gamer
This is a neat collection of shirts that reference some of the more popular board games out there.

“Cardboard Clothing was founded to provide a way for boardgamers to express themselves and their love of the boardgaming hobby.

All of our designs are created by us and based on modern boardgame staples as well as some of our current favorite games.”

Let’s Play Dice
The pips on these dice are different, but it’s supposed to be completely balanced. That’s not the most important thing for me for dice, but they’re pretty awesome looking.

“The challenge was to create a perfectly balanced design for each side: they all have the same volume (mass) removed one every surface, so no side is heavier than others. Our concept was use a shape that can be divided up into 6 parts, with always the same surface occupied: Rectangle and Round shapes offer the most attractive look!”

Carbon Fiber and Luminescent Rings
So pretty! So glowing! There’s others with inlays that I think are pretty cool looking as well.

Roll20 Signs Monte Cook Games
Roll20 is now officially Monte Cook Game’s virtual gaming partner. This is pretty exciting news for those using Roll20 to play various Cypher System games. They’re integrating The Strange first, and you can currently get a Strange Starter Pack for free to help run your virtual games more smoothly. You can use this pack to do things like roll for Cyphers, play music tracks, and track XP with in Roll20. We haven’t tried Roll20 for our Cypher games since a grid isn’t necessary for the game, but this partnership is adding some great features that will improve your online gaming experience. You can also get specific modules for the adventures The Curious Case of Tom Mallard and The Dark Spiral.
